Grant Management and Administration :
EMC has designed and implemented numerous grant programs totaling in the millions of dollars and has established methods to monitor the progress of grant activities and tracking and disbursing grant funds. Grant-based programs goals include strengthening NGOs working to prevent trafficking of women, and introducing public participation and democratic processes in refurbishing and constructing needed schools.

Teacher Training :
Recognizing that well-trained teachers are a must to quality education, EMC has designed and implemented teacher training programs that promote child-centered teaching methodologies. It introduces modern classroom management methods that involve parents in the learning process. When crossing mountain roads makes regular class attendance impossible, EMC teacher training programs have been successfully conducted by radio.

Accelerated Learning :
Whether because of poverty, conflict or other upheavals, large numbers of children are out of school and many have missed years. EMC conducts accelerated programs that allow two years of schooling to be recovered in one year. These highly successful programs follow national curricula and provide a mechanism for mainstreaming out of school young people.

Technical Assistance :
EMC provides a broad range of technical assistance including advisory services to ministries of education, education sector assessments plus programs to combat child labor and trafficking in persons, promoting girls’ education, and equity in the classroom. We have developed customized life skills training, and devised programs to involve civil society in improving school management and quality of instruction.

School Health and Nutrition, and HIV prevention programs :
A child’s physical health is a critical determinant of future abilities to learn and benefit from education. Malnutrition and HIV-AIDs are two of the most severe afflictions in impoverished communities. EMC partners with government officials and NGOs to design, implement and manage sustainable, community-based strategies to improve child health. Approaches include outreach via community schools to regularly administer micro-nutrients and anti-worming medicines, and community mobilization campaigns to identify and implement local strategies for HIV-AIDS awareness and prevention.

Education Policy Reform :
Increasingly, education is recognized as a child’s right and governments duty-bound to provide it. EMC provides expertise to education ministries to assess education system performance, identify needs, design reform strategies, shape policies, and initiate, manage and monitor advances. To harmonize effective education subsystems, EMC extends technical support to a range of education components, including teacher training, education administration, curriculum development, management information systems, infrastructure procurement, education planning and finance, and human resource development.

Procurement of School Supplies :
EMC has vast experience assessing needs, providing books, desks, blackboards, and student kits. We systematically work with ministries of education and other donors to identify the location of schools, design specifications for desired goods, solicit competitive bids (ideally from in-country vendors), and select vendors most qualified to deliver services within specifications. Our record is one of success when ensuring the transportation, warehousing, and distribution of school materials, such as millions of textbooks provided to children in various communities in time for the new school year.
