The Leon H. Sullivan Summits bring together the world’s political and business leaders, delegates representing national and international civil and multinational organizations, and members of academic institutions in order to focus attention and resources on Africa’s economic and social development.  Their mission was inspired by Rev. Leon H. Sullivan’s belief that the development of Africa is a matter of global partnerships.

A big push is necessary if Africa is to meet Millennium Development Goals on poverty, mortality and education.

The Africa Economic Summit will create an environment where collaboration between governments, Africa’s international development partners, business and other stakeholders can help propel Africa to self-sustaining growth and development that will make aid less necessary.

Harvard University
March 18th and 19th, 2005 – 
The purpose of the National Conference on Brazilian Immigration to the USA is to bring together scholars, community leaders, members of the Brazilian community, and college students to discuss the phenomenon of the Brazilian immigration to the USA.
There is a need for a national perspective on Brazilian immigrants to expand the network of researchers and community groups interested in Brazilian immigration issues.

Global Latitudes will attend the International Conference on Metropolitan Economic Strategy, Barcelona

The Global Conference on Metropolitan Economic Strategy will draw on the key themes of the Prague Institute: Global Urban Development, Treating People and Communities as Assets, Facing the Metropolitan Challenge, and Celebrating our Urban Heritage. The primary purpose of this conference will be to help spread the main ideas that constitute the Prague Institute's new strategy for enabling urban regions to develop a cohesive identity based on a sense of common purpose and cooperative teamwork, and to fostering new global, national, and local economic policies that recognize the dynamic contribution of urban areas and the necessity of promoting economic and social equity and a sustainable environment as essential building blocks of prosperity and quality of life for all.

John Preston Davis was a civil rights activist who shared Global Latitudes' vision for fair, humane, and sustainable development.

The Spanish Mediterranean port city of Barcelona received some 2,000 to 3,000 delegates representing governments, local authorities, non-governmental organizations and other experts on urban issues from around the world for the second gathering of UN-Habitats World Urban Forum on September 12,-17, and 2004. The theme of this year's forum: Cities: Crossroads of cultures, inclusiveness and integration
